Summer fun with the Pup!

Summer is Here!

Being outside with your pup is the best! With the summer weather there is no shortage of sunny days for exploring and playing outside, but being aware of the heat and elements is something to consider when exploring the great outdoors. Always pack plenty of extra water and treats, and keep an eye out for rattlesnakes and other wildlife. If you are more of a city type dog, check the temperature of the concrete or pavement before walking! Place your hand or bare foot on the surface for about 10 seconds, if it is too hot too keep your hand or foot on then it is probably too hot for your dog. Try to stay in the shade or on grassy surfaces!

4th of July is a wonderful time to celebrate with friends and family. Keeping your pet safe during this holiday can often feel like a challenge, especially if you have a dog who is frightened easily. Parades, people, BBQs and fireworks can overwhelm even the most confident dog, so remember to take some steps to make sure your dog is and feels safe.

  • Exercise your dog the day before and the morning of the 4th of July to reduce anxiety during the day

  • If you are taking your dog to a parade or a party, make sure that you have a secure harness or collar and leash that your dog can not get out of in case there is something starling or too exciting to resist

  • Have up to date ID tags

  • Have a safe, secure room in your home do put you dog in during fireworks, playing light music can also help to smooth the senses. Spotify even has a playlist made just for your pup!

  • Keep an eye out for counter surfing dogs, there will be lots of treats that your dog would love to take!
